We held our first ever artsREACH Pop-Up event at the Vancouver Island School of Art on September 24 and 25th, 2016. It was a big success!
Businesses from around the city were very generous with their donations of recycled and surplus items. Our tables were filled with bins and trays offering with all sorts of alternative art supplies.
Customers stuffed their bags with paper samples, fabric swatches, old records, flip books, 33mm slides, buttons, styrofoam blocks, frames, pottery … you name it! We had quite a selection of goodies to inspire artists and crafters alike. Some shoppers returned from the tables to buy second and third bags and we also saw return visitors on Sunday who came back to fill more bags or to bring their kids to do craft projects. By Sunday afternoon, there were many empty bins!
Our mystery grab bag was a big hit with kids! artsREACH instructor Beth Threlfall did a wonderful job preparing this project for the kids and the room was buzzing with creativity for 2 days.
There was a steady stream of kids working on projects all weekend.
We also debuted our new artsREACH caravan. Isn’t it cute? It looked great in front of the school and received many compliments. Thank you to Cobworks for the wonderful construction and making all of our caravan wishes come true! It is sure to be a big hit at upcoming festivals around town.
Many thanks to the volunteers who came together to help make the weekend a success. We learned a LOT about our fledgling social enterprise and it holds great promise for future community events.
Congratulations to the winners of our name draw!
Oz Wilson, Jane Calder and Jessica Koski each received a $20 gift certificate for Opus Art Supplies.
