Our 9th annual fundraiser was a colourful, tasty evening and the local community raised a whopping $20,000 for artsREACH!
On May 11 chefs from local restaurants, hotels, and catering businesses participated in a canapé challenge based on colour. The participating chefs were from 10 Acres Group, Brentwood College School, Fireside Grill, Food For Thought Catering, The Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Saveur Restaurant, Shel’s Kitchen, Toque Catering, The University Club, and Westin Bear Mountain.
Hats off to Toque Catering!
Chef Nick Waters of Toque Catering won two awards for his canapé: Most Colourful Creation and Best Tasting. Chef Waters created an orange canapé of gin and juniper age cured Arctic Char, carrot papaya gazpacho, and smoked orange.
The people have spoken!
The People’s Choice Award went to Chef Morgan Milward of Brentwood College School for his canapé. Chef Milward’s purple canapé was a crispy pork belly with an opal basil coconut crust.
It was a tough job, but someone had to do it
We’re so grateful for the support and contributions by our sponsors: The University Club, Everything Wine, Island Blue, Event Service Production, CTV, CFAX 1070, KOOL FM, and the Times Colonist. We also appreciate the support of Bruce Williams (Master of Ceremonies), Scene About Town, Matt McCeachie, Aaron Licht Photography, Wendy Paige, and Nicholas Tuele.
The awards were created by John Davis, Redroom Artglass Studio, and Taylor Gauthier Designs.
Thanks also to our last-minute sponsor, Used.ca, who discovered our event this month and couldn’t wait until next year to be part of it.
